Club Reviews
Moonlighting: Soho
You could say Bigglesworth and I were regulars at Moonlighting in the late nineties, but
we turned our back on it to venture further a field, to pastures new. So when we decided
to head down there (purely for business) in order to give you guys an idea of what to expect,
I was quite looking forward to seeing if it had changed. Had it changed? No not really. The D.J
still speaks too much, the music doesn't change from one genre to another often enough.
I mean I don't mind a bit of Bashment, but an hour and a half is too much for me. The fact
that a couple people in there were odorously challenged did not lighten my mood. The age group
ranges from about 18 to 30 and if you haven't had a chance to eat before you get there you
can pick up some rice and peas in there. In general if you're looking for late night raving
(it doesn't close till 5am) and some heavier Hip-Hop and Bashment than is available from most
places, then hit Moonlighting.

Edit: Personally, it can never be too Bashy for me, and as for the Hip-Hop; Hip-Hop Rules the World!!!
Nuff said, Bigglesworth
Zoo Bar: Leicester Square
Zoo bar on a Wednesday night is a good midweek night out, it plays R&B and
Hip-Hop. Being in the heart of the west end you get a real range of people
there. The venue itself is a decent size with just enough room to cut some
shapes. Look out for the regulars who do there Usher and Justin Timberlake routines
but, look more like routines suited to the two Ronnies. You will hear the
most up to date tunes in the Zoo bar so if you're not working on a Thursday,
check it out.

Club 1: Ascot
Club 1 is right next door to Ascot race track and is billed as Ascots best
kept secret; it's for over 25s and it plays old skool soul and R&B. Just to let you
know gents you must wear collars to get in.
For me Club 1 is a venue to go to with wifey or your man, as the clientele
tend to be of a mature nature; as when I first went I had to check with the
bouncers (who are cool by the way) if it was over 25s or 45s. If you do end
up in there with your crew you will still have a good time as the music is
top draw. Club 1 is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Thursdays are singles nights
for all desperados.

Area: Watford
Area is situated bang in the middle of Watford High Street. It's quite a big
venue with three rooms in total. Room one is a chillout room which does exactly what
it says on the tin. You've got the main room which spins all the latest in
dance and soulful house and is as you would expect, the largest of the
three rooms, giving you plenty of space to "shake what ya mama gave ya".
The final room is the R&B room, the problem with this room is not the music, that
is actually pretty good, but the way the room is set out. There is no
designated dance floor, so finding a spot to dance is difficult and it seems like
people use this room as walk through. Saturday is the busiest night so give it a try
and let RoyalUrbanite crew know what you think.

Ice Bar: Reading
The ice bar in Reading on a Saturday night plays R&B, hip-hop, dance and chart music,
oh and old skool according to the DJ although I don't classify Sir Mixalot 'I Like big butts'
or En Vogues 'What a Man' as old skool but more as just old. The bar itself isn't set out to well
although you don't have to wait to get a drink for too long. They have an upstairs balcony overlooking
the dance floor which isn't good as people leaning over can spill drink on you as you bruk out to
that old skool classic 'I Like Big Butts'. The general clientele is quite young about 18-25s the ambience
is quite friendly all the same and closing time isn't until 3am.
Id say if you're in Reading take a look, but I wouldn't recommend taking a drive of more than an hour to
get there, it's nothing you won't find in your local high streets bars and clubs.
